CHAMOMILE ROMAN (Athemis Nobilis)

Chamomile essential oil is extracted from the flowers of the small plant native to Europe, but cultivated in other countries.  Th Egyptians dedicated this plant to the moon because of its cooling effect and ability to reduce fever.  It was known in history as the 'plant's physician' because of its ability to cure other shrubs planted nearby and it has been used extensively in shampoos throughout the ages to highlight and condition fair hair.  Chamomile tea has long been a popular way to aid digestion and promote sleep, and is sometimes added to liqueurs as it is thought to help liver problems.

Chamomile is a very soothing sedative oil, that will promote relaxation and calm anxiety, tension and fear.  It is often helpful with insomnia as it also quietens the mind as it has antidepressant properties that can help to allay worries.

Through massage, chamomile's analgesic qualities have been seen to be effective on low back pain, headaches, toothache and earache, particularly when connected to a nervous condition.  It's anti-rheumatic properties also make it a useful oil to treat arthritis, rheumatism, inflamed joints and muscular sprains through massage.

It is useful with menstrual problems, helping regulate periods, easing menstrual pain and calming the irritable effects of P.M.T and the menopause.  However because of it's powerful effects on the Uterus it should be avoided during the first few months of pregnancy.

Chamomile is very gentle and soothing on the skin and is therefore suitable for children and those with a sensitive skin type.  It is suitable for eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis and allergic conditions generally.

This oil blends well with Lavender, Geranium, Rose, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang and Neroli.
